I have a 16 week old kitten called missy...i took her to the vets 4 days ago because she was being sick and having really bad diarrheal, the vet did an examination and said she might have Inflammatory Bowel Disease, the vet prescribed Noroclav 50mg and Stomorgyl to treat her over 5 days. Also the vet advised feeding her chicken and boiled rice whilst on medication. She has shown little improvement as before i took her to the vets she was being sick 1-2 times a day and having diarrheal 3-4 times a day but it was more like brown water then faecies. recently its thicken up but still not 100%. is there anythink else i can try, im worried it might be somethink worser and i dont wanna loss her becuase she means alot to me. what could it be...please help

Hi there, sorry to hear about the problems. Has she been tested for any of the kitten viruses? FIV, FELV, FIP and Panleukopenia? Its important to rule these out Im afraid.

I would be concerned about dehydration at this stage. Did your vet mention if she was dehydrated?

    Let me know, regards, David

Every day I see pets come into my clinic injured and unwell. Its always so upsetting knowing that treatment could be taken a lot further only if the owner had taken out pet insurance. You have health insurance, so should your pet... Dr Brooks

Hi david my vet said to me if she does not improve over the last 5 days is to take her back for blood tests for viruses. my vet says that its likely she be dehydrated as she was drinking plenty but goin through her system as why her diarreah was like water. i woke up this morning and notice her diarheal is now yellow! but its thicken. does this mean she getting better becuase of her medication. she not being sick since she been on her medication. and the vet did say she was underweight for her age. can you offer me any advice of what she might have, thanks

The top concerns on my list are the viruses mentioned above Im afraid. The yellow diarrhea I dont think is an indicator of improvement. However the stool thickening is good news, also that the vomiting has stopped too.

It could be just a nasty bacterial gastoenteritis but those viruses are still of concern to me.

Hope that helps, good luck, let me know how things turn out
