My golden retriever has torn a whole on the pad of his front paw. He is walking on it and not showing pain but he continues to lick it and there is skin missing. What should i do?

Hi there, sorry for the delay...

I would ensure they are clean and maybe put a light dressing on the foot to prevent the sensitive underlying pad isnt exposed to further trauma. Alternatively rest and only walking on soft ground until the pad hardens again.

    Hope that helps, David

Every day I see pets come into my clinic injured and unwell. Its always so upsetting knowing that treatment could be taken a lot further only if the owner had taken out pet insurance. You have health insurance, so should your pet... Dr Brooks
