Gum Bacteria

Rating: 10

Brewster

Brewster (4 pound poodle) has been on Clavamox for a gum infection/bacteria for months. He takes the antibiotic for 10 days and smell and yellow goo clears up. Then 8-10 days the smell and yellow goo come back. Dental Cleaning and Blood work (kidney & Liver)are all good. Is there any natural/herbal or over the counter treatment I can give him to clear it up or give to make it longer in between giving the Clavamox? Please advise.

Tooth brushing is always a great way of reducing surface plaque and keeping smell down.

The best antibiotic for dental health is Antirobe (Clindamycin). You may get much longer affects with this.

Im not sure of any herbal products unfortunately. Looking online I see this:

Leba III is a unique, advanced-formula herbal dental spray for pets that removes tartar and prevents future buildup on the teeth... all in a convenient spray.

But I have no experience with this product. Its sold through "Only Natural Pet Store"

    Hope that helps, David

Every day I see pets come into my clinic injured and unwell. Its always so upsetting knowing that treatment could be taken a lot further only if the owner had taken out pet insurance. You have health insurance, so should your pet... Dr Brooks
