Limping

Finny has been limping for almost two weeks. I had hoped it was a sprain as he is a smaller dog and jumps off of chairs/beds etc. When you feel his leg(left, front)there is swelling on the upper ,inside part of the leg,but doesn't seem to cause him any pain. What do you think it could be ?

    Hi,

These little guys are prone to patella luxation. This is the most common cause of chronic intermittent lameness in small dogs. Its a consequence of the knee cap not sitting in its groove properly and occassionally the joint gets inflamed. Is it the knee you are talking about?

He will need to be assessed by your vet for this. There are many corrective measures that can be taken if it is this.

    Hope that helps, David

Here is a link to a hopefully useful article on this: Patella luxation . Let me know if it turns out to be this.

Every day I see pets come into my clinic injured and unwell. Its always so upsetting knowing that treatment could be taken a lot further only if the owner had taken out pet insurance. You have health insurance, so should your pet... Dr Brooks
