Captian

I live in utah valley in utah, and my dog is itching his ear like crazy. I asked about it on yahoo answers and i got refered here. I am wondering if it is some kind of allergys, an ear infection or some kind of mite, or bugs.

Symptoms: Head Tilt, Itching & Scratching, Pain

  Hi there, All of the things you mentioned are possible - allergic otitis, bacterial infection, fungal infection, earmites, other types of parasites (certain mites actually affect the skin of the ear and make them itch) as well. He could even have a foreign object stuck down there. He definitely should be seen by a vet as soon as possible to figure out what the problem is. Best of luck.

  i could tell from your pic that you are a vet, so i can understand you telling me to see a vet but is there anything i can do myself to treat him like an otc medicine I would really appreciate your help

  You can try and clean the ear out thoroughly with some over the counter cleaning solution and hope for the best, but without seeing the ear and doing some tests, I would have no idea what is going on and thus couldn't tell you how to treat it - this is why I recommended the ear be seen by a vet.
