Dog keeps scratcing at wound

We recently discovered that my dog has flea allergies. We have put both of our dogs on Revolution, and have gotten rid of the fleas in our home. My dog still scratches a lot and has scratched so much on her neck that there is now a wound. This happened about a week ago. I clean it with hydrogen peroxide every few days. However, she keeps scratching at it and causes the scab to come off and bleed. I have tried tying a cloth bandage on her neck, but it always comes off after a few hours due to her biting at it. Do I need to take her to the vet for the doctor to look at it or is there something I can do at home to help her get well?

I always recommend Frontline Flea control for flea allergies as I see the best results. It may be that she needs to go onto a short course of antibiotics and steroids to get her out of the "itch - scratch" cycle and i would recommend a veterinary dog collar. Hydrogen peroxide may be to irritant in this case so I would advise not using this.

Every day I see pets come into my clinic injured and unwell. Its always so upsetting knowing that treatment could be taken a lot further only if the owner had taken out pet insurance. You have health insurance, so should your pet... Dr Brooks
