Sneezing kittens

We got two 10 week old kittens from a local cat shelter (cats only) last Tuesday (9/2). Two nights ago, they started sneezing a few times an hour or so. I have not noticed any discharge from their noses, but from their breathing it does sound like they have a stuffy nose.

We keep them indoors all of the time and they are otherwise happy, playing, eating, sleeping, purring, etc. I am on the lookout for any abnormal behavior (lethargy, lack of appetite) but have not noticed any yet. I read through a couple other similar situations, could this be Cat Flu or allergies? If so, how long should I wait before consulting a vet? Could this go away on its own? Could it be related to they kind of kitty litter we are using?

This sounds like cat flu to me due to multiple kittens being involved. As it is a virus it will pass on its own. However, more commonly secondary bacterial infections become a part of the problem and this can make the problem very serious. I really think that the best thing to do is to get them checked. A course of antibiotics is always recommended here.

Every day I see pets come into my clinic injured and unwell. Its always so upsetting knowing that treatment could be taken a lot further only if the owner had taken out pet insurance. You have health insurance, so should your pet... Dr Brooks
