My cat won't eat...please HELP

Rating: 10

My 4 month old male cat was altered on Sept. 3rd, received his rabies vaccine, FeLV and FVRCP vaccines. He has had a loss of appetite since Friday Morning (Sept. 5th). He has had diarrhea, and vomitting. He refuses to eat. He has been drinking water. I took him to the vet on Friday afternoon (Sept. 5th) and he didn't have a fever and his vitals were normal. They sent him home with a liquid antibiotic, however I wasn't able to get him to take it. He got very upset and started foaming at the mouth. He spit all of the medicine out. I haven't tried to administer it since. Do you have any ideas of what could be going on? Should I seek emergency medical attention tonight?

    Hi

As long as your cat is drinking water, and not vomiting it up, then this is something that can probably wait until regular opening hours at your local vet.

Your vet obviously thought that bacterial gastroenteritis was the most likely diagnosis and therefore prescribed antibiotics. It is important that Kohl get these - if you cannot administer them to him, then you must either:

    a) Ask for a demonstration of how to administer the medication properly

    b) Visit the vet clinic every other day for an injection of long acting amoxicillin

    c) Visit the vet clinic and ask if they have an ultra long acting injectable antibiotic. In the UK we have one called Convenia, which is useful for feral cats or uncooperative ones.

In addition to all that, tempt him to eat with some cooked chicken, which is gentle on the stomach.
