Hair loss can be caused by a lot of things. It would help to know where she is losing hair from and if she is itchy. If she is scratching and losing hair from over her back then the most likely cause is fleas. This is one of the most common causes of coat problems in the dog. If she is at all itchy I would recommend fleaing her anyway with either frontline or advocate. If she has hair loss over her head, elbows or knees then it may be mange and advocate will cover this too as well as fleas. It would be also useful to know what the skin looks like. Is it normal, scabby or flaky? If she is not itchy and hair loss is over her sides, nose or tail then things may get more complicated and more tests may be needed. Diseases such as Cushings, thyroid problems and hormone problems would need to be ruled out. Let me know the exact location of the hair loss and I may be able to give you more clues as to the cause. Her skin is fine..no itching at all..she acts very healthy and playful...she is an indoor dog but goes outside about every hour. The hair loss is all over..i can go to her and pull a good bit out...i have been brushing her everday but it still coming out. At first the shorter finer hair came out but now it is the longer hair also...My son had bought a box of those gainsburger dog food she seemed to like it...then her hair started falling out ...i checked on the internet and it said that dog food was bad...so we put her on science diet hoping to make the hair loss stop...it has been about 10 days since she started on science diet but the hair loss has not stopped....

Has she actually got bald spots? If not then the hair loss is nothing to worry about and just a normal moult. Sometimes moults can be very heavy and you will feel like all her hair is falling out but if there are no bald patches then do not worry. I would be surprised if it was related to her diet however Science Plan is a good diet and will promote good coat condition. It can take a few weeks before coat changes are seen with a new diet as it takes time for the new hair to grow through. If she has actually got bald patches then this is a different matter and I would advise getting a vet to check her as diseases such as Cushings and thyroid problems are more likely. Hope this helps.
