Broken leg

My dog leg is broken. He has a splint wrapped very well; it holds his leg very straight. The vet recommened surgery, but we can't afford to pay $1200. Do you think the splint wrap would be enough?

    Hi

Unfortunately a splint is only a temporary measure. Without seeing the xrays, I cannot really comment on how crucial it is that your dog has the surgery. It depends which bones are fractured and the alignment of the fragments.

The splint alone will probably not provide total immobility; if the fracture site is moving even a little, then union of the bone is delayed or might not happen at all. If your dog really does need surgery and you don't do it, he could end up having to have the leg amputated.

    Good luck
