Weird behavior

My pug tends to do a weird bitting...almost chatter like thing with his mouth. I tend to see him doing this only when he's been smelling something (like the bed, couch, etc.) for a awhile. He'll then start to do that weird chattery thing until he starts to force excess liquid/saliva (i think it's saliva...) onto the object he is smelling. The smell almost smells like urine. What is he doing, and is this a sign of an infection??

I think its best he is checked by your vet here. The most consistant cause of chattering teeth is jaw pain or dental disease pain. He may be producing excess salivation due to pain in his mouth also.

The smell may be due to an oral infection or plaque build up on his teeth

hope that helps, please have him checked

Every day I see pets come into my clinic injured and unwell. Its always so upsetting knowing that treatment could be taken a lot further only if the owner had taken out pet insurance. You have health insurance, so should your pet... Dr Brooks
