Pepper jumped off of our bed about about a week ago.He sounded like he landed a little hard. He was okay the first couple of days except he wouldnt jump on the bed or anything. Then he suddenly stopped walking. He would only drag himself aroun. We carried him to the vet. They did spinal hip and skull xrays, Everything came back normal. They also did bloodwork which was normal. They really have no explanation for what is wrong. They sent him home on prednisone. They said he may walk in a few days or it could be weeks. They just dont know, He does'nt seem to be in any pain and he is very alert. He also eats really well. I have noticed since he has been home he has not had a bowel movement 4 days. He seems to have no control of his body. If we sit him up he will just fall right over. Please help! We would carry him to another vet but money is tight and the next closest one is 60 miles. Any advice or answers would be greatly appreciated. He is our baby!

Hi
It sounds like your dog needs a full neurological exam, maybe he has already had one, but if he had then a competent vet would have been able to identify the location of the 'lesion'. It is not uncommon for xrays in these situations to be normal. What is probably needed is CONTRAST MYELOGRAPHY to see if a slipped disc is pressing on the spinal cord. Unfortunately that is quite expensive, if it cannot be afforded, then cage rest and anti-inflammatiories are all you can really do. You need to check he is peeing as well, if the nerves to the bladder are impaired then this is a very poor prognosis as he wouldn't realise when his bladder is full.
Good luck
