dog breast milk

hi again we have stopped the puppys feeding off her and she has got lots of milk coming through and her breasts have started going hard is there anything we can do to stop this thank you,clare

    Unfortunately it sounds like your dog might be developing mastitis, basically infection of the mammary glands which leads to abscessation. If they feel hard and hot then this is definitely the case. Your dog would need antibiotics ASAP in that case, there is no home remedy unfortunately. Any ulcerated areas can be washed with salty water, but that will not resolve the infection inside.

    how much are tha antibotics from a vets to treat this please could you let me know thank you

    Hi

    A consultation is normally around $50. The vet then gives an injection of antibiotic to get it straight into the system, and then 2wks of tablets. The antibiotics would be a further $50 or so, but prices vary considerably.

    Expect to pay $100-$150 for the whole thing.
