Trouble Moving or Walking

  • Carmen

I have a Rat Terrior and one morning she woke up crying and yelping. When she moves in a certain way or trys to walk she cry a little. I noticed that her neck and her shoulders hurt when I press on them. She can't jump up or down on things and she can harldy go up and down the stairs. I havn't taken her to the vet yet. It seems like she has a pulled muscle or a pinched nerve or something. Is there something that I can do at home?

    Symptoms: pain, lumps and swellings

Hi I'm afraid you would be better off taking Carmen to the vet for this one. Whilst it could be something innocuous like a sprain, it could also be something serious like a slipped disc. Any spinal problems have to be treated as a matter of urgency, it has a major effect on the outcome the quicker the treatment is initiated, if it did turn out to be that.

The problem with giving any medication at home (e.g. half an aspirin with food) is that if you then take Carmen to the vet within 24hrs of that, he/she will be unable to give certain key drugs because of what you gave at home. Therefore you have to be careful what you give. Preferably take her to a vet.

    Good luck!
