introducing guinea pigs

PUDDING
PUDDING

I have recently got a 6 week old female guinea pig as company for pudding (her old cage mate recently died at the age of 7 and 1/2). Pudding seems interested in the little pig and will lie with her at times then other times she nips her and chases her around the cage. I am keeping them in seperate cages at the moment but have them next to each other, and when i am with them i put them both in the main cage. Why is pudding nice one minute then nipping and chasing the next?

How long have you had the little guinea pig, it will take time for the older one to accept her, and may take a couple of weeks, the older one is just telling her who is boss! also try putting some of the new guinea pigs old bedding in with the older pig then they also get used to the smell. It will take a bit of time an patience. They should accept each other after a while, but there is also that very small chance that they may not. Keep trying as often as you can. Good Luck . Selena
