Eye Problem?

Rating: 7

I have a 5 year old female german shepherd/husky mix, and I've recently noticed that the whites of her eyes are really red, and she has a greenish goopy discharge coming out of them. What could this be, and how would I treat this? Thank you for your time, Joanie

I think in this case she should be seen by a vet. There are a number of problems that occur in the eye of varying severity. It could be a relatively mild bacterial conjunctivitis that needs antibiotics but things to be ruled out are corneal ulcers and "dry eye" (Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca).

When it comes to eyes always get your pet seen by a vet. It would help our other visitors if you could upload a close up picture for us. thanks, David

Every day I see pets come into my clinic injured and unwell. Its always so upsetting knowing that treatment could be taken a lot further only if the owner had taken out pet insurance. You have health insurance, so should your pet... Dr Brooks
