Hi, my ~13 year old male cockatiel has started to sit on the bottom of his cage in the corner a lot...is this behavior something to worry about?

    Hi,

Sitting at the bottom of the cage is often a sign of illness in cockatiels. It could be any number of different diseases so it is pointless to speculate without having examined the bird. I would suggest taking Spike to an Avian vet, as birds can go downhill very quickly.

    Good luck!

I have a 12 year old cockatiel called Rosie who prefers to sleep and 'perch' on the floor in his corner. We call it his bedroom. I put plenty of sand into his 'bedroom' so he is nice and comfy. He just likes sitting there...mind you he is a bit of a nutter as he thinks he is a girl sometimes and has 'invisible' eggs that he sits on and you daren't go near him when he does! Rosie is a very happy bird and has had this weird trait for around 5 years. Just check that Spike hasn't got bumblefoot that is stoppping him perching but if in doubt get him to a avian vet. Sha
