Yellow discharge in eyes and runny nose

Rating: 9

My 3 month old kitten has yellow discharge from his eyes. He has had the discharge for about two weeks and someone told me that it is common in kittens and nothing to be alarmed over so I wasn't worried... but for the last couple days he has a stuffed up runny nose especially when he wakes up from a nap. Now I'm starting to get a little worried. My other kittens left eye has some discharge but doesn't appear to be that bad. None of my adult cats have any symptoms. Can someone please tell me what this could be? Thanks

    Hi,

If your kitten is sneezing and has discharge from his eyes, then he is suffering from 'cat flu'. This is a disease very common in unvaccinated cats, and even some vaccinated cats can show symptoms of it. It is a viral infection of the upper respiratory tract, passed on by contact with other infected or carrier cats. To treat it, most veterinarians prescribe antibiotics as secondary opportunistic bacterial infections are common once the immune system has been weakened by the cat flu.

If your kitten is unvaccinated, that is something you must have done once he is better.
