How far should I walk my dog?

Rating: 9

Our Bull terrier bitch is ten and a half weeks old. We have taken her for short walks of about fifteen minutes the past two days. Is this too much or too little? Also is it best to feed her before or after walks? Cheers.

Hiya, Belle is so cute. Little and oftern walks for puppies are better as they tire easily it sounds like you are doing the right thing - There is no written rule about how many times you should walk a puppy, it should be routine and at simular times every day to try and establish a routine. Up until 6 months 3 x 15 minutes walks would be fine however when they reach puberty (6 month usually) once or twice a day for a hour at a time (or more) is sufficent. As long as the puppy has adequate time to rest inbetween then there should be no problems. As for feeding i would feed after the walk as she is more likley to enjoy her walks with a empty tummy and it also prevents stomache upset. Please also take into account that you must give her time to catch her breath back before feeding , ideally half a hour to a hour. If feeding after doesnt tie in with your routine , to make it easier you can feed before a walk but please leave about a hour before walking to allow the stomach to empty and digest the food properally. Hope this helps Please use this advice on the basis that she is fully vaccinated and in good health. Thanks Stacey
