excessive licking

Rating: 9

My dog, a 6year-old golden retriever-dashund mix,has been licking the hardwood floor and the carpeted area of our living room and vomit aferward. I crated him and he still kept licking the towel spread under him. He otherwise looks okay but this excessive licking
is definitely not normal. Would there be a reason for that? We once noticed that he vomited what looked like a hairball. We now think it must have been another carpet licking session when we were not around.

Symptoms: Vomiting

How long has he being doing this licking behaviour for? is this just a recent thing? Is he drooling too? There are many reasons and unfortuately no one obvious answer, but here are some of the things that spring to mind...... Nasuesa, oral/pharyngeal irritation, allergies, behvioural ( sometimes the more they do it the more addictive the behaviour is and its a vicious cycle), tonsillar irritation. A good physical exam by your vet should help rule out some of these causes and help guide the choice of any medications he might need.
