Swollen leg

Hi, I recently took my labador out to the beach and as he jumped into the water he landed funny and came out limping. On inspection I discovered that his back leg knee joint was badly swollen but he was still putting a bit of weight on it so I presumed it was just sprained and we've been resting him since. Its been nearly a week now since the incident and the swelling hasn't gone down at all so I'm starting to get a bit worried about it. He is putting weight on it when he walks, but when he's standing still he lifts it off the ground. Do I just need to rest him more or could it be something more serious? He doesn't appear to be in much pain but he has been very lathargic.
Thanks
Sarah

it sounds like a torn cruciate ligament. see a vet as he may need surgery or at the very least pain relief
