pregnant dog - possible late abortion

my pekingnese delivered a stillborn pup last summer and i'm afraid it's happening again. i know she's pregnant and she's acting very strange as before. She has a dark foul smelling fluid coming from her vagina. She runs back and forth, lays for a minute all day long. If her pup is stillborn, is there anything i can do to help her? the vet doesn't open for another 5 hours.

Hi there, This doesn't sound like good news I'm afraid. Do you know how many weeks pregant she is? Foul smelling green/brown liquid from the vagina is probably meconium, which is foetal waste and a sign of foetal distress or death....ie the foetus may be in trouble or already dead. She sounds agitated but is she straining? If the foetus is dead, then it can start releasing toxins, making genie very ill. You can use a gloved finger to press upwards on the roof of her vagina to see if this will help induce labour. Otherwise just keep her warm and clean and ensure she's taking in fluids. Chances are she will need stabilisation with a drip and a C-section to remove the pup. Is there no emergency vet you can take her to? I would also consider getting her neutered when appropriate to prevent this from happening again. Anyways, good luck and let me know how it turns out!
