My little 4mo. old Torkie,(Rattail terrier/Yorkie) ate a whole wooden pencil, well except for the metal part. Will this hurt him? Can his little body pass this on thru? Please respond ASAP Thank you

You don't have to worry about lead poisoning because today's pencil is not made of lead anymore, but the risk will be the amount that he ingested and if the pencil splintered or not. This may cause obstruction on the intestinal tract or if the pencil is splintered it may punctures the intestine. Check his stool if part of the pencil pass through. You should take your dog to the vet if you see the following signs. Loss of appetite, lethargy, drooling, diarrhea, and vomiting. Take care and good luck.

Thank you very much for your response to my question. All is a-ok and good. He passed yellow flecks which of course was pieces of the pencil and showed none of the signs warning of trouble!!!! I am so relieved!!
