i think my pet rat broke or sprained his hind leg

Rating: 0

I have a pet rat who gets his toe nails stuck in everything even though I trim them periodically. I think he may have sprained or broke his hind leg between his foot and the joint at the ankle while tugging his foot to get a nail unstuck from the bath towel I put in his cage or the carpet in our bed room. He is draging his right foot, but not squeaking about it being touched. I checked his back and hips. All seems to be fine there. He seems to sit in one spot and not walk around to much. He has also been vary lethargic. When I noticed this I put him in a one level cage with food on a saucer instead of his bowl and I hung his water bottle the lowest point of the cage so he doesn't have to reach for things. I had left over anti inflammabilities from a previous vet visit so I gave him a little to ease any discomfort. I know it is hard for him to use his hind leg which makes it difficult to pick food up with his front paws, so I have been hand feeding him things like cooked potatoes, ground beef, and green juice from a droper. I don"t think a rat can have a splint because they are to small and chew on everything. Is there anything else I can do for him if his hind leg is broken or sprained?
