There are a lot of factors that causes itching. The most common is flea allergies.  Food can also cause allergies that causes itching. Stress, bacterial infection, or yeast infection can also cause itching. So treatment may vary according to what causes the itching and it is best that a vet should take a look at your dog. A physical exam is important to have the right diagnosis and treatment. In the meantime you can give Benadryl for the itching. But you have to call your vet for the right dosage for your dog.  (The usual dosage is 1 milligram per 1 pound of your dog's body weight. Or typical dosage is dogs under 30 lbs. 10 mg. 30-50 lbs 25 mg. and dogs over 50 lbs. 50 mg.) Then a topical theraphy consisting of bathing your dog with either a colloidal oatmeal shampoo or a hypoallerginic shampoo atleast once every two weeks. Take care and good luck.
