my dog has a broken dew claw. the claw is still intact, but there is a break with minimal bleeding. I was going to go out of town tomorrow and leave him with a friend. What should I do?

I am sorry for the very late response to your query. If a broken nail trim it back. If it bleeds stop bleeding by applying pressure. Clean the claw with warm water. Used paper towels to dry. Disinfect the nail using betadine, you can pour over the nail or dab it using sterile gauge pads. You can put bandage for less irritation and so that your dog will not lick it. You can put socks to prevent licking and chewing of the bandage. Hope this helps you. Take care and good luck.
