Injury to Hind Leg - Horse

Rating: 0

My mare was kicked in the leg approx. 5 weeks ago. It required stitches and antibiotics. The wound got infected after she tore out a stitch, but this was controlled with cleaning. The wound closed about 2 weeks later, and the leg swelled. This was treated with antibiotics. The wound then "popped" open again - revealing proud flesh. This was removed by the vet. Since then (it has now been 2 weeks since proud flesh removed) the wound has not closed and has large local swelling, and small discharge. Horse does not have temperature, is eating normally and is not lame.I have been advised to wash it with warm salt water. Pls let me know if there is a better way to manage this - the wound was not swollen like this before.
