Hi there, I have a 5yr old male black lab/shar pei mix and he vomited about 3 times last night and it was not pure blood but yellow with a reddish tinge with red specs of blood. He rested the rest of the night and this morning we made him rice with some chicken and he kept it down and is now seeming like his old self again be active, playing, and wanting more food. We also checked his stool and urine and they are fine. I'm not working so it would be really hard to pay for a vet but we will if we need to but since he seems fine, do u think he will be ok??? and would could it of been???? Any help you could give we wd be so thankful.

Vomiting blood is a common illness in dogs. Some causes may be dangerous while others don't pose any danger. Although this should not be ignored. Take note of the amount and color of the blood. Check your dog's mouth and throat for injuries and obstruction. The possible causes of vomiting blood are poisoning, ingestion of foreign objects, tumors in the digestive system, chronic gastritis, stomach and esophageal ulcer, obstruction in the digestive system. If your dog is showing signs like loss of appetite, diarrhea, blood in the stool, lethargy, pale gums, seizure drooling and panting, you should seek medical help as soon as possible.Take care and good luck.

Thanks so much for your quick reply Dr Reyes. Bailey seems to be doing great now. He has been keeping everything down, though I'm keeping him on bland diet for a little longer. He is as playful as ever and still wants to eat everything in sight. Thanks again. Have a great day.
