Vomiting

Biko

Hi my brother has a bull terrier, he lives in the state of South Carolina. His name is Biko. Biko has been experiencing constant vomiting over the last few months. Sometimes he can go a week or so and nothing happens. However recently he has vomited twice in a matter of a week. My brother has taken him to the emergency vet. he has had blood work done, x-rays, and some other procedure which involve drinking a white liquid to check for foreign objects. Biko is a well kept dog. So far noting has been found. Biko is such a get pet, he's a year old this week. Our family has grown to love him as if though he belonged to us. We are wondering if all else appears to be normal could it be his food, the environment, digestion ect. We are worried. I want Biko better. What advice can u give. I was told by the Wellness Pet food company to try spreading his food out on a cookie sheet to slow down the eating process. Going to the vet is getting quite expensive and we still don't have answers.

    Hi there

It does seem like your vets have done all they can to rule out foreign bodies and systemic diseases.

This might happen because he is eating too fast, and bringing it up again. Is he vomiting only after meals, or does he do it other times as well? It might be better for him to be fed several small meals a day rather than one big one.

Another possibility is that he could be allergic to the food he is on, in which case you should put him on a hypoallergenic exclusion diet. He needs to stay on this for 6 weeks to see the effect, and during this time he can not be fed anything else but the diet, otherwise it would be a waste of time and money. An easier option is to try him on a diet for sensitive stomach, Hills has a diet especially made for dogs with sensitive stomachs.

My brother feed Biko a prescribe hypoallergic food prescribed by the vet for four weeks. Iam not sure if this was all he was feed, but I will find out. Vomiting doesn't necessarily happen after eating. I maybe hours later. It ususally happens when he's playing or moving around. He is very active. Is it possible for a dog to become allergic the food he has eaten since he's been with his ownwer? My brother feeds him Wellness brand food. It was recommended by the breeder. We love Biko so much and want to see him better asap. Thanks for any help you can give.

    Sorry for my late response.

Is he fed before or after walks? it is important to not exercise him straight after feeding, as this can cause vomiting. You could also try smaller, and more frequent meals.

It is possible to become allergic to a food over time, but it is not so common.

    How is Biko doing now?
