Not weight bearing on hind leg

Rating: 9

We'd been out in the field as usual and Pippa was racing around. When we got back to our yard she diappeared for a minute but came back when we called her lloking a bit sheepish. She often does this so wasn't worried. Brought her in and dried her feet as normal then my husband said she wasn't weight bearing at all on her right hind leg. I have checked her paw, flexed it and bent it, she doesn't cry but is looking very sorry for herself.
Please help it is Xmas Eve and obviously we will get the vet if necessary but would prefer not to disturb them at Xmas if it is something we can deal with.

Symptoms: Pain, Lameness

Hi Jane Of course the ideal would be to have her checked out by the vet asap as she is not weight bearing and it could be something serious. What you need to look for is swellings or a crepitation (cracking sound) when feeling the leg. If she does not cry out when touching any particular spot there is a chance this is just a sprain and she will be ok tomorrow. So if she is not in pain when at rest and there are no swellings, bleeding or obvious fractures it will be safe to leave it until tomorrow and see how she is then. If she still is not weight bearing tomorrow I think you should call your nearest emergency vet on call even though it is christmas. Hope this helps. Torunn
