red flaky skin

Rating: 5

My 1 year old Westie has areas on her sides, hips and thighs where she has lost her hair and the skin is red and flaky. They don't seem to bother her too much, but they are defiantly hotter that the rest of her body. We have changed everything from her food and bedding, and no change. We are thinking its hot spots but the vet seems reluctant to give us any diagnosis. Can you help?

Is she on a hypoallergenic food, is that what you meant by changing the food? Its a possibility that she could be allergic to something in the environment, you can get her allergy tested which checks for any sensitivity to many allergens. And a second opinion is an option, I'm not saying changing you vet but getting a second opinion is a perfectly normal thing. Thank you for your question, I hope I helped.
