the last few days, my dog has been excessively licking his behind. now it looks red and irritated. i dont notice any worms or anything in the area.
is there somthing i can buy to put on it or give him?

Dogs and cats shed the eggs more often than the actual worms themselves. Your vet can examine a fecal sample and deworm him as well for any intestinal parasites seen under a microscope. The other possibility is that his anal glands are full. Anal glands are sacs that are located on either side inside of the rectum, used for marking and scent. Most can express them on their own but, sometimes dogs and even cats need them expressed/drained for them. I'd recommend having your vet check and express them for him - they can be difficult to express and can get infected if left unattended, they also have a very pungent odor so its better the veterinary staff do it instead of you at home.
