2 week old puppy has a rash

Rating: 8

My 2 week Labrador puppy has a rash on her stomach and others puppies are starting to get it to, it does not seem to be bothering them at all, I took the mother to the vet for Mastitis 2 days ago and they gave her antibiotics to take for a week, is this what is affecting her puppies or could it be that the blanket they are lying on needs to be washed. Thankyou for your time

Hello, Sorry to hear your problem If the puppies have got it then they need treating to It is more likely to be a parasite infection rather than a bacterial infection. Some parasitic infections are classed as Zoonotic . Zoonotic means that sometimes with certain parasites , humans are able to contract them as well. Please avoid touching the area and buy los of gloves for handiling the puppies with untill you know what it is. It could be scarcopic mange - this will progressivley worsen if left untreated It could also be Ring Worm - Humans can catch this and will worsen if not treated. Please take all of them to your vets and ask for them to perform a skin scrape on them - this will confirm if there is any internal or external parasites by looking at the scaping under the microscope A fur plucking needs to be taken to confirm ringworm, and the results take a little longer as they have the fur in a dish on agar jelly to see if any fungi grow normally 3 days but can take up to 3 week. However they can use a light to examine the skin and if the skin glows green this indicates that a certian type of ringworm is there. If all parasites are ruled out then allergys need to be considered or contagious bacterial infections that need to be treated ASAP. Please take all of them back to the vets. A unwashed blanket will not cause all these problems to appear and is more likley to be parasites. Good luck xx

The oddest thing happened, when I awoke this morning to check on them the rash had dissapered completely on all the puppies, even the one that had it the worst in the picture. You mentioned it could have been allergic reaction do i checked it out, tried to find out if anything diffrent had happened yesterday, well after some thought there was something my Husband had did, he had sprayed the room with Fabreeze Pet Odour control, but not directly in there bed but im sure it would have been in the air. could the Fabreeze have caused this reaction? should i still take them in if there is no rash? Im cleaning all fabrics in my room oday to make sure it is completely gone including mine and there bed and perhaps giving them a quick wash as well. what do you think?am i in the clear or is another vet run in order?
