Cat Won

My 13 year old cat had surgery last week to have some growths removed from her ears. Her ears are fine now but she has been back to the vet and emergency hospital several times because she isn't eating (she did not have this issue prior to the surgery). She is obviously hungry (she begs for her treats) but she either won't eat or won't keep the food in her mouth. It appears that she is having trouble smelling the food. Could this inability to smell be a result of the surgery, the anesthesia (she had gas, not a tube in her mouth), or Clavamox (she vomited after one dose so we stopped it)? Have you ever seen anything like this? I'm desperate to help my cat and get her eating again. Please help!!! Thank you.

Thank you for the question. You could offer a a bland diet (Boiled skinless chicken, steamed white rice, cottage cheese) for a few days until she is eating well. It will calm her stomach and help her digestion. When you start her on her normal food do it slowly over 5-7 days - gradually decreasing the bland diet and increaseing the normal diet. Clavamox can do that (vomiting) especially on an emplty stomach. Antibiotics can all do that though, so its highly advisable to give wih food or just after eating. its very important that she eats because not eating can lead to other health issues. I hope I helped and thank you for the question.
