My 7 year old female lab is loosing the hair on her tail. It starts from the tip and goes about three quarters of the way towards her buttock. She is not scratching anywhere and there doesn't seem to be any other symtoms. What could this be?

She may be chewing at the tail in private when unsupervised. I would check that the anal glands aren't full by emptying them. See this article on anal glands for instructions how to do this. You should also apply a veterinary spot-on antiparasitic if you haven't already done so within the last month. If we have ruled out parasites and anal glands, and the skin on the tail is not inflamed, then either Angel is just rubbing it off by the way she sits, or it is the onset of hormonal alopecia (first step would be to do a blood test for an underactive thyroid gland).
