She has an ear that was lanced and drained about 1 1/2 years ago. The ear has started to swell back up. they said it was from water but she doesn't get in the water and is an inside dog. What can i do or watch for to prevent this and can i drain it myself?

    Hi there

I need to clarify something here. Did she have an ear infection that was flushed out, or was the cartilage of the ear (outer portion) swollen up  - a condition called aural haematoma? The latter is a collection of blood between the skin and the cartilage, and it needs draining. You would probably not be able to do this at home. Aural haematomas are not caused by water though.

An ear infection is a bacterial or fungal overgrowth in the ear canal, and it could be caused by swimming but also has other causes, ie stress, high humidity, mites, etc. This also needs to be treated at the vets.

Please let me know which of these conditions zoey has, for me to help you further.
