Hi! All dogs are prone to eat their own feces. Some says it is cause by dietary deficiency, but there are recent studies that shows it is more on the behavioral side of the dog. Some associate it with loneliness and boredom. Dogs being a scavenger in nature sometimes eat feces in order to survive, and it becomes a habit once they got used to it. I am just a pet technician, and I can only give suggestions or information so it is advisable to seek your veterinarian's advice on this matter. I think prevention is the best cure for this problem.

My dog is a minpin(not pictured here) she eats other dogs poop while out on walks. Any other ideas?

As I said before, prevention is the cure to this kind of behavior. Putting her on a leash during a walk would prevent her from eating other dog's poop. There is a danger that comes from eating other dog's poop. She might ingest parasites and bacteria. And when that happen diarrhea or vomiting may occur. There is an article here at Televets.com that discusses this behavior. Try checking it out. Take care and good luck.

Thanks 4 the replying back. I keep her on a leash always while on her walks(3-4 times a day). Others don't pick up after their dogs and she is really good at finding it and grabbing a fast snack(eeww!) She keeps active and is healthy and happy but, I didn't know if I should be taking her to a vet just for this.

Your welcome. If she's still active, healthy and happy enjoying the poop (Just a joke...) then you don't have to take her to the vet? But if you consider this as a problem that needs a professional approach then you should take her to the vet. Try training her for a new word that will mean NO, don't eat the poop. "Off" will be a good word. On a leash, first lead her to poop when she goes forward to get the poop gently snatch the leash and firmly say "off". Try this for a week or two. It can save you money. Just a little patience will do the trick. Take care and good luck.

Thanks for the good advise. I'll give the "off" idea a try and see if it works. It sounds like a good idea where just the"no" isn't working. Maybe a new word will work better. I was concerned she was missing in her diet. I will try your idea for 2 weeks and then reply to let you know if it worked.

Ok. I'll wait for your update. I just hope it will work for your dog. By the way you can also try other words like "yuck" or "yuckie" or even "dirty" just to have a specific command on her to stop her bad habit. Again, good luck!!
