My 8 year old momma cat has taken to grooming herself to the point of pulling out her hair. and it isn't in just one area it is in several areas. A friend said she could be allergic to fleas. She has Advantage. Could it be anything else?

Thank you for the question. Even when pets are on flea preventatives they can still be bitten by the stray random flea that maybe in the environment- which pets can get an allergy from. Its actualy an allergy to the flea saliva that causes intense scratching, hair loss from it, a skin infection, lesions/pustules or "hives" which is called FAD (Flea Allergy Dermatitis). Another possibility can be a skin bacterial and/or yeast infection. Skin problems can actually be very difficult to treat due to the fact that is a process of elimination sometimes to pin point the exact reason for the issue at hand. Ask your Vet what he/she would like to do before taking it upon yourself and trying to give an type of anti histamine like benadryl to help with the symptoms she is experiencing.Thank you again for your question, I hope I helped.
