Caring for new puppy

This is my first pet, and I am concerned about the care and responsibility of the puppy? Ex. grooming, feeding, vet care. I consulted a breeder, what questions do I need to ask to be sure I am getting a healthy puppy?

  Hi there,

  I would be sure to see the parents if possilbe or at least the mum, this will give you a good idea of temperament. Look at where the pups have been housed do they breed alot of different puppies? A reputable breeder should only breed a couple of differnent breeds and i would avoid any that bred numerous ones.

  Have the puppies been vet checked, wormed, flea treated, or started their first vaccinations, they all should look bright and well fed. Puppies should be 8 weeks before they leave their mum.

  Find out what food they are on an see if they can give you some to take home or a feeding sheet.

  Ask to see the parents. Ask if there has been any repetitive illnesses in his lineage. Make sure to fully examine him before buying also. Ask if he has had a vet exam, and if so did he have anything. Ask what food they're feeding him so you can get him the same thing. Ask to see all the puppies to make sure they all look well. Because if one doesn't and it's contagious another puppy could have it and the breeder could have no idea. Good Luck, Gabriella
