constipation

my male 7 year old cat appears to to constipated. Is there something I can do to ease his discomfort?

    You can try to give him a laxative or add some fiber to his diet. There is a laxative usually found in pet supply stores called Laxatone, which is kind of like a flavored paste you can add to his food, or if he's not picky give him some straight from the tube. A great way to give this to cats is to either put some on the tip of their nose or on their paws, and they'll lick it off.

    You can give him some canned pumpkin, which is a great fiber-additive. If you do this though, please make sure it's pure pumpkin, not pie filling.

    If the constipation lasts for more than a few days, please visit your veterinarian. Also, please make sure he's urinating, as difficulty urinating can be a life threatening problem and your cat would need to be seen at his vet immediately.
