Poor girl! How old is she? How are her teeth? Sometimes when older dogs have problems with their teeth, they may become abscessed (meaning there could be an infection "behind" her tooth in the gumline. This can cause the swelling in her face. If that's the case, she needs to see a veterinarian and have that tooth pulled, as well as the rest of her teeth cleaned.

If her teeth aren't bad, I would still bring her to the veterinarian, so they can check her out and make sure her eye is okay.

    Hope this helps!

Thank you for your prompt answer, my dog is 8 years old and has had her teeth cleaned 14 months ago. I have taken her to the vets last Monday and I explained that there appears to be NO irritation to the eye or puss coming from the eye but the vet said that it was probably just an infection? He gave me Maxitrol Ointment to put in the eye 3 times daily but the swelling keeps up and down. I do believe that it could be her tooth. What should I now do?

I would take her back to the veterinarian. It's still possible (even though she had her teeth cleaned 14 months ago that it's her tooth. Is she still eating? If so, watch her, she may be eating "gingerly" or being very careful. Let the vet know that the ointment given to you hasn't helped much since the eye is still swollen and ask him/her to please check your dog's teeth. They may need to do some dental x-rays, so be prepared for that. By the looks of her in your picture, the swelling looks like it is down in her cheek, too, which makes me think even more it's her tooth.

    Trust your instincts! Good Luck!
