My dog is 11 years old and a few months ago his gums got infected. Though we tried our best to fight the infection, it ate away at his skin. Has anyone ever heard of this? What is wrong with him?

please please see a vet immediately, normal gum disease and infection does not eat away at skin and if that is genuinely what has happened I would be worried that there is something more serious going on. If it is that the infection has caused loss of pigmentation etc then strong antibiotics maybe needed which still involves a trip to the vets
