Cat can't pee... again!

My cat seems to be unable to pee... again! She is only 3 years old and in the last year this has happened three tiems. She has been on the best vet food all her life and before the first instance we kept a regular diet of dried food. We now give her wet food evry 3-4 days in additon to the dry food. She was the runt of the littier and is a doll faced persian female.

Has the vet tested her urine to see if there are any crystals present in the urine, these are often the cause of a blockage, though it is more common in male cats.

Wet food is good as it contains a good amount of water to keep her flushed through.

It could also be an infection causing cystitis where they appear to be squatting all the time, and not peeing where actually there is nothing to come out they just continually feel the need to pee.

I would suggest collecting a urine sample and taking it in to the vets for testing, they should be able to tell you if there are crystals, infection or blood cells present and then take it from there, to be having this recurring suggests there is something being missed, and then they can investigate more throughtly.

Thankyou for your reply, we have given the Vet pee sample previously and she was indeed diagnosed with crystals. After her first cystitis injection (anti biotics) she has had the problem on two more occassions. She has the same symptoms where she keeps trying to pee but nothing comes out. She also pee's on our bed infront of us in what seems a cry for help. When not ill she never pees's anywhere but the litter tray. Is there anything else we can do? we already have a mixture of the best wet and dry food Hills)and water bowls all over the house?

It sounds like you are doing every thing right, but providing the best food!

There are other brands of food which might be worth asking your vets about.

Did they find out what type of crystals were present, as they can require different diets.

Sometimes cats will hold their wee too long which can cause crystals to form, cystitis will not help this either.

If it keeps recuring, vets can flush out the bladder under a general anaesthetic, but obviously there is the risk associated with an anaesthetic.

Keep up the good work as it sounds like you are doing every thing my the book.

    Regards
