Jack Russell has creamy discharge

Rating: 10

Moet

Moet is a 17 year old female jack russil. I took her to our local vet on saturday as she had a creamy discharge dripping out of her. The vet said that because she has never been spayed her uterus walls were thickening and it had caused and infection that cant be completey cured as it would just come back. he prescribed some antibiotics but about 4hrs after taking she became very sick, he has mentioned that their is a posibility of hormone treatment but other than that their is not alot he knows of that can be done for her. Since she was poorly after taking the tablets shes been quite and not very energetic although she has a strong appetite still. is their anything we can do or should i consider having her put down as i dont want her to suffer?

    Hi there,

Her age is a worry but they best thing would be to spay her to remove the uterus and thus the infection.

It sounds like she has a pyometra which is an infection in the womb, antibiotics will not cure it, and i doubt that hormone treatment would either.

At her age i would suggest having a routine blood screen to see how her kidneys and liver function is going, and then i would speak to your vet about spaying her with fluis therapy support, obviously there is a much higher risk of losing her under the anaesthetics with the age that she is.

The chances of her recovering without surgery is very poor I'm afraid.

Thinking of you and hope that you cansort things out.

    Regards
