I just adopted a 16 week kitten from the local animal shelter. It has a slight runny nose and is sneezing. Is this something that needs to be look at and/or treated by a vet?

It sounds like your kitten has an upper respiratory infection - a lot of shelter kittens get this! I would advise a trip to the vet for some antibiotics - some of these kittens can get hit pretty hard, their appetite can go off and they can get really ill. If he is still bright and happy, some antibiotics may be all he needs. Best of luck!
