cats for immunospressed children

I have heard that cats can be dangerous for those with suppressed immune systems.

I have a child who takes steroids on a daily basis.

Since this would classify my child as having a suppressed immune system, I was wondering if owning a cat is not worth the risk.

We have a small dog and never had a problem, but we would like to have a cat as well.

For every article that states that owning a cat can be potentially dangerous, I have read articles that state that having an indoor cat only requires proper precautions, such as the child never cleaning the litter box.

What do you think, is owning a cat too risky???

Thanks!

Eddie

This question is best answered by your/his or her doctor and by weighing the potential risk a cat may pose. A see no issue if your child and your family are very conscience of practicing good hygiene and keeping all your pets as health as possible aswell. I hope I helped and thank you for your question, please be sure to consult your child's pediatrician to help you come to a decision.
