I had Roxy spayed three weeks ago and now her stomach is swollen where the stitches were. She is not acting as though she is in pain. However, it does not look right to me. Should I take her to see the vet?

Hello there, thanks for the question. 3 weeks is ample time for the surgical wound to have healed and swelling should have subsided by now. I would definately take her to the vet to be examined. It may be something simple like a seroma (build-up of fluid under the skin) but could also be a hernia. A hernia occurs if the inner layer of sutures has come apart, causing fat, organs etc from the abdomen to protrude out and sit under the skin- ie all you see is a swelling. If there is a hernia, this could be dangerous as parts of the intestine can protrude, become strangulated and very very painful and toxic. If she is acting well, it's probably not an emergency at the moment but I would book her in in the next couple of days. Hope this helps and good luck!
