rectal bleeding

Our 6 month old pit/lab puppy was energetic and acting normal two days ago. I gave her a biscuit (it's a new bag) and two or three hours later she was throwing up. She became listless and completely uninterested in food right away. This came on very suddenly. Now she's having not just bloody diarrhea, but twice so far she has lost at least a half cup of blood, we think from her rectum. What can cause this?

    Hi there

This sounds very serious and you need to bring her to the vet ASAP. It is difficult to say what is causing this, at it is unlikely it is caused by the biscuit. Still, bring the bag of biscuits to the vets so they can see what type it is and maybe figure out wether she could have reacted on some of the ingredients in it. It does sound like a type of poisoning. Can you think of anything else she could have ingested that she should not have?

Hope she is OK, if you have not already, please bring her to the vet. This is a true emergency.

Let me know how you get on

I also recommend taking your puppy to the Vet immediately.  There are several reasons besides the biscuits that might be causing the symptoms you are seeing.  Pediatric patients get dehydrated easily and are more susceptible to viruses.  Good luck
