bleeding rectum

why does my dog chew her rectum until it bleeds? Could it be due to rawhide chews? She won't let me get close enough to take a photo of it.

    Hi there. I'm not convinced this is a behavioural problem, it sounds more like she has an irritaion in that area and that's why she's chewing. This could be itchiness due to skin disease (allergy, mites etc) or a disease in the deeper tissues, for example, perianal fistulas. I would reccomend taking her to see a vet soon as this is probably quite uncomfortable/painful for her.  She needs treament for the ithciness and possible infection followed by investigation of the cause. I would also put an e-coller on her head to stop her from reaching her rectum and create more damage. Hope this helps!
