Sickness morning only

Rating: 9

My cat is staying with my ex boyfriend for a month whilst Im away on business. He is in a new house and seems fine apart from he is being sick every morning and then is fine the rest of the day. He knows my ex boyfriend very well and is sleeping ok, cleaning himself ok - eating well, using litter etc, playing with his toys but he has been sick every morning so far - his nose is nice and wet though. Could this be a sign of stress from being in a new environment?? Its only in the mornings though. Regards Danni

This regurgitation certainly may be due to the stress of being in a new environment. Is he still being fed the same diet while at your boyfriend's house? If so, that could also be the culprit. Because of the fact that he is completely normal otherwise, I would tend to think it is due to stress, and should work itself out as your cat gets more used to being there. If it continues for very long or if his condition deteriorates, I would advise a trip to the vet.

Thanks so much for that - Ive just spoken to my ex again and he said he fed him a little bit and after an hour he's brought that up again too. So as of today he isnt keeping any food down - but now he is running round the house playing his usual favorite games and seems fine. Ive advised him to get him to drink some water as I worry about dehydration and his tired kidneys - he had cystitis (bladder infection) a couple of months ago which he recovered from when on antibiotics and a drip within a day. He is on the same diet apart from he is eating more fish (tuna flakes - cat food 70% meat stuff) than he does with me - I found the Tuna made him sick sometimes. But his usual food which he has never had problems with is what hes been fed today. ??? Vets tommorrow I think. He brought up some Bile earlier too when his tummy was empty.

Hi again - you are correct in being concerned about hydration in a 15 yr old kitty! The fact that he seems himself is encouraging however, so don't get too nervous yet. I do agree that he should see the vet tomorrow if the behavoiur continues throughout today - better safe than sorry, especially with an older cat. I am not worried about the bile, they often do that when they have an empty belly, but we should definitely make sure all is well with the kidneys, and then perhaps your vet can prescribe an anti-vomitting medicine so that he will keep down his food! Let us know how it turns out, good luck!

PS - Perhaps have your ex-boyfriend feed him some boiled white meat chicken and a bit of white rice. That is quite mild and easy on the stomach, so if he eats that there is a chance he might keep it down.
